Lakeland Dairies to host major water quality event in Meath

Lakeland Dairies will host a major water quality event in the Moynalty Catchment, Co Meath as part of the €60m Farming for Water European Innovation Partnership (EIP).


The event, which is supported by the Local Authority Water Programme (LAWPRO) and Teagasc, will highlight the benefits of the EIP and how farmers are taking proactive steps to improve water quality. 
Farmers are being encouraged to attend the event on the farm of Sean and John Gilsenan in Moynalty, Co Meath on Tuesday 3rd December from 11am to 1pm. Speakers on the day include Lakeland Dairies, Teagasc and LAWPRO.

Lakeland Dairies has chosen the Moynalty Catchment as a “Champion Catchment” to act as an example for farmers across the region to drive water quality improvements in their area. 

The €60m EIP, Farming for Water, aims to support water quality improvements. Measures are designed and implemented in collaboration with farmers and will be targeted specifically to address local challenges.

This event is the latest initiative by Lakeland Diaries to improve water quality across its catchment area. Over the course of the last year, the dedicated Lakeland Dairies’ water quality team has carried out over 1,000 farm visits aimed at maintaining and improving water quality.

Farming for a Better Future: Protecting our Waters - Friday 10th May 2024

On Friday 10th May, we will host one of the most important events in our recent history. A major event will take place on the award-winning farm of Eugene Fitzpatrick in Lisryan, Granard, Co Longford Eircode: N39 CD99.

The event is entitled Farming for a Better Future: Protecting Our Waters and has speakers including experts from the Department of Agriculture’s Water Quality division, Eddie Burgess from Teagasc’s Agricultural Catchment Programme, Head of Dairy Knowledge Transfer with Teagasc Dr Joe Patton as well as senior Lakeland Dairies staff.

Attendees will see first-hand the huge steps farmers in derogation like Eugene are taking to protect water quality. The enormous importance of the entire dairy industry in driving a balanced regional economy will also be highlighted at the event.
